iMate enhancements

Defining iMates has the following improvements:

  • An iMate may be named when created.

  • Multiple name match is now possible, so that symmetric components can specify orientation, resulting in repeated "A to B" matching. You can specify Match Self Only, Match Any, or Match Names.

The assembly Place Constraints tool now lets you specify iMate Match names.

iMates can not only be inferred from all constraints of a component, but also from selected constraints or features.

When placing a component with iMates, you can now select among valid locations and orientations which iMates to join.

Modeling enhancements

  • Settings moved to the Tools menu include Defer Updates, Update Mass Properties, Analyze Interference, and Activate Contact Solver.

  • Window selection from top left to lower right selects everything inside the window; from bottom right to top left selects everything touched by the selection window.

Design Doctor

A new check box named "Enable Related Constraint Failure Analysis" on the Assembly tab of the Application Options dialog box performs analysis to help identify constraint failures.

The Design Doctor has improved diagnostics when analyzing a constraint failure. On the Design Doctor dialog box, you select a new treatment named "Related Failed Constraints." This treatment narrows the focus to a smaller set of components that may participate in a constraint failure, thus helping you to find and repair errors.

Export video of driven constraints

The Drive Constraint dialog box has new options for exporting recorded driven constraint sessions. You can export in .asf or .wmv format.

In the Save As dialog box, you can set a custom name for the video, and in the Export Properties dialog box, set bandwidth and image size properties.

Interactive Contact settings

Interactive Contact settings (interactive contact and complex surface) are moved from the Assembly tab of Application Options to the Modeling tab of the Document Settings dialog box. The settings apply only to the current document.

Positional representation overrides

Through the context menu, previously unavailable operations are now available in non-master positional representations. The result is an override unique to the active positional representation. For example, in an active positional representation, you can apply Modify (Override) and Suppress (Override) to constraints:

  • For the Modify (Override), you can enter a new value in the Edit Dimension dialog box for the existing constraint. The new value shows in the browser.

  • For the Suppress (Override), the selected constraint is immediately suppressed.

Component overrides switch the current state to the opposite:

  • Flexible (Override) switches the selected component's flexibility status.

  • Grounded (Override) switches the selected component's grounded status.

Subassembly positional representations may be enabled, selected, and turned off or on by double-clicking in the browser to activate.

Pattern offsets may also be overridden. Through the Edit option on the context menu, you can reset the offset. Other changes to the pattern elements are not overrides, but update the master assembly pattern definition.

An enhanced RETURN tool offers several ways to exit an in-place editing session. Its behavior is similar to the SELECT command in that you can specify its focus. When in-place editing, a drop-down list of return destinations is available. They include:

  • Return to Previous

  • Return to Parent

  • Return to Top (top-level assembly)

In addition, the RETURN button has special meaning when exiting from environments such as 2D and 3D sketches, drawing sketches, sheet metal, solids, or construction environment. The context changes according to the environment.

Auto Limits monitors model geometry and mass properties

Auto Limits allows designers to designate specific aspects of their design to monitor during creation and editing operations. These new sensors allow dynamic tracking of selected model geometry and mass properties, and report threshold changes as the model incrementally evolves.

You can create sensors at the document, feature, and sketch level. In the graphics window and browser, sensors indicate status by color and shape.

A special toolbar is available by clicking the arrow on the sheet metal, part, assembly, and weldment panel bars. Individual sensors are grouped as follows:

  • Sensor parameters sets tolerances and other settings.

  • Dimensional sensor includes Length, Distance, Angle, Diameter, and Minimum Distance.

  • Area-Perimeter sensor includes Area and Loop sensors.

  • Physical properties sensor includes Volume and Mass sensors.

  • Refresh sensor recalculates sensors.

Length sensor

The length sensor monitors the length of:

  • 3D edges: straight, arc, spline, elliptical and so on

  • 2D geometry: line, arc, circle, ellipse, and spline

Angle sensor

The angle sensor monitors the angle between points, lines, faces, work points, work axes, and work planes in 3D and 2D:

  • Point1-Point2-Point3: Point1 to Point2 determines one vector. Point2 to Point3 determines the second vector. Point2 is the intersection point.

  • Line/Axis1-Line/Axis2

  • Line/Axis-Plane/Face

  • Plane/Face-Plane/Face

Diameter sensor

The diameter sensor monitors:

  • 3D arc edges, circular edges, constant curvature faces

  • 2D sketch circles and arcs.

If desired, you can specify the value as radius rather than diameter.

Distance sensor

The distance sensor monitors the distance between selected geometry. If distance is monitored to a cylindrical face, the distance is calculated to the axis.

Minimum distance sensor

The minimum distance sensor monitors distance between vertex, edge, face, part, and subassembly selections.

Loop sensor

The Loop sensor measures the length of the collection of edges bounding a face. You can select one or more geometry loops.

Area sensor

The area sensor measures the area of one or more selected faces.

Volume sensor

The volume sensor measures individual components, subassemblies, and top-level assemblies. You can select items to measure in the graphics window or browser. When you select a subassembly or top-level node, a single cumulative value is calculated.

Mass sensor

The mass sensor measures individual components, subassemblies and top-level assemblies. You can select items in the graphics window or browser. When you select a subassembly or top-level node, a single cumulative value is calculated.
